13 Great Deals on Sustainable Products, Walmart+ Sales, and More

Reduce, reuse, and buy a sweatsuit made of recycled plastic bottles this weekend. Or shop Walmart’s members-only event….

If anyone really likes stuff, it’s the WIRED Gear Team. But stuff creates waste. Thankfully, there are brands trying to reduce waste where possible—think reusable snack bags and silicone straws—and more and more companies are also making products from that waste, like shoes made from old plastic bottles. Good news! Some of those products that we’ve tested and love are discounted right now.

That’s not all. If you’re a Walmart+ subscriber, you can take advantage of the Walmart+ Weekend sale (the retailer’s version of Amazon Prime Day). So far, we haven’t seen a ton of options discounted that we like, but we’ve added a few below.

Special offer for Gear readers: Get a 1-year subscription to WIRED for $5 ($25 off). This includes unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine (if you’d like). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.

Deals on Upcycled Products

Check out our guides on our favorite bags and other products made from upcycled and recycled materials for more recommendations.

Longchamp tote bag

Longchamp Le Pliage bags are popular among purse carriers. They can hold a lot of stuff without buckling under the weight, so it can be your school or work bag, and they look nice too. This version is made from recycled polyamide canvas that’s made from old carpets and fishing nets. It doesn’t have a laptop pocket like our other favorite recycled and nonrecycled bags, but it holds one comfortably. For traveling with this as your backup purse, it folds down pretty small to fit into your carry-on.

If you need a new wallet to go with your new bag, this one is made from leather trimmings taken from motorcycle jacket production. It’s thin and has just two pockets. The rest of the products from this Portland, Oregon-based company are also made from discarded materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.

For Days jogger top and bottoms

For Days Sweatsuit

Each piece in this matching set is made from 25 percent recycled polyester; the rest is organic cotton. Together and separately, they’re comfy and warm, and I particularly love the dark green color. Every For Days purchase gets you 10 percent back in “Closet Cash” to spend on other items, and if you recycle your clothes back to the brand once they’ve reached their life’s end, you’ll get $5 to spend (at For Days only).

This sale is offered site-wide, but we particularly love these joggers that sit buttery soft against your skin. They are quite pricey on their own at $98, but you can get a matching top or leggings with this sale. All the products are made from various amounts of recycled plastic bottles, but the joggers are made up of roughly 52 bottles.

Deals on Reusable Products

If you want to start replacing more single-use products, we have a list of options to choose from.

The WIRED Gear Team loves Stasher bags. Instead of tossing ziplock bags after every use, you can buy a few of these silicone bags once and use them forever (or at least until they start to degrade, which should be a while). They’re dishwasher-, freezer-, and microwave-safe, and you can even use them for cooking with sous vide. A few sizes are discounted, and you can find this sale at Home Depot too.

I highly recommend replacing plastic wrap with reusable wraps like these, made of beeswax-coated cotton, to never deal with the pain of it sticking to itself and nothing else again. This pack comes with small, medium, and large wraps, and they can be washed and reused for a year or more, depending on how often you use them.

Public Goods makes a bunch of reusable products we like, including these wool dryer balls to replace single-use dryer sheets. They help absorb moisture to quicken drying time, and you can sprinkle essential oils on them if you don’t want to give up the fresh scents embedded in sheets.

Deals on Menstrual Products

If you can give up tampons and pads (at least sometimes), you can spend less over time. See our menstrual product guide for more info and options we like.

Lily Cup unpackaged

I can fully see the appeal of a menstrual cup, but I never actually liked them until I tried the Lily Cup. It’s angled and thinner than your standard cup, so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable and it’s easy to get in and out.

Thinx is having a site-wide 25 percent off sale, so whatever style and absorbency level you’re after is a few bucks off. I particularly love this pair, because they look really pretty, and they can hold up to five regular tampons worth of blood without feeling like you’re sitting in bloody undies.

Adidas’ period-proof line of shorts and tights is incredible, and a few styles are discounted right now in addition to these shorts, including biker shorts and tights. For light days, I found the shorts more than enough, but the brand does suggest using them as a backup to a tampon or pad rather than your sole protection.

Walmart+ Deals

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ typically goes for $650 to $700, so this is a rare and great deal. We liked it well enough. It comes with a stylus, and you can do some work on it if you add a keyboard—skip the default keyboard and use a Bluetooth one (it’ll save you money). The 12.4-inch AMOLED display is the real star of the show, offering sharp colors and inky blacks.

LG’s C1 OLED (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a great TV that works beautifully for gaming—its input lag time is equivalent to or better than most gaming monitors. This 65-inch TV usually sells for around $1,799, but it rarely dips this low. The 55-inch is $550 cheaper right now, so if you can spare 10 inches, it might be worth it for your wallet.

Binged the newest Stranger Things season and desperate for a taste of Argyle’s fave pizza? Walmart offers a frozen version in a four-pack. I’m not sure how well frozen pizza will fare in the mail, so maybe opt for in-store pick-up if possible.
