Tottenham overcame a red card for Serge Aurier and a terrible mistake by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to carve out a hard-fought win over Southampton.

Aurier was sent off for a second yellow card in the first half with Spurs leading through Tanguy Ndombele’s powerful shot.

Lloris allowed Danny Ings to poke the ball home when he was too casual taking a Toby Alderweireld pass, but Harry Kane put Spurs ahead again before the break after a flowing move involving Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen.

The Spurs goalkeeper made amends after the break with a couple of brilliant saves to deny Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse as his team hung on to move into fourth place.
