Mead gives England win over Portugal after goalkeeper error

Beth Mead capitalised on a goalkeeping error as England ended a run of five games without a win by beating Portugal 1-0 in a friendly in Setubal.

Patricia Morais dropped a routine catch from Alex Greenwood’s delivery and Mead pounced to smash in from a yard out.

It had come moments after Morais had made a good close-range block to deny Jodie Taylor.

Claudia Neta almost snatched a late equaliser when she hit the crossbar with a free-kick in stoppage time.
