33 Best Deals From Walmart and Other Amazon Prime Day Rivals
In the past five years, Amazon Prime Day has exploded. It started as a corporate anniversary event and now it’s a two-day spending spree. We didn’t need another shopping holiday, but that’s what it has become. So big is the hype that brick-and-mortar giants like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy have joined in the circus, along with many of Amazon’s digital competitors, including eBay and Newegg.
But the best part about not being an official part of Prime Day? You don’t have to adhere to Prime Day’s rules! Amazon’s sale has ended and many of these retailer’s flash sales have expired, but many of the discounts remain. Below are our top picks. You can also find any remaining deals on our post-Prime Day page.
Updated at 3 pm ET July 17: We corrected some pricing now that Prime Day is over. If an item is no longer at its deal price or sold out, we cross it out. Deal prices sometimes return and items come back in stock faster than we can update, so it never hurts to check for yourself.
Note: When you buy something using the retail links in our stories, we may earn a small affiliate commission. Read more about how this works.
Walmart Deals
Allswell
Walmart’s “The Big Save” sale lasts through Wednesday, July 17.
The Allswell Hybrid Foam Mattress for $280 ($65 off): There are a lot of super cheap foam mattresses, and I tried a ton of them for our Best Mattresses buying guide. Unlike a Zinus or AmazonBasics mattress, you won’t sink too deep into The Allswell while you sleep because it’s a hybrid. It has a base of individually wrapped coils under its memory foam layers. If you want a little more plushness, The Allswell Luxe ($495, $90 off) has more foam layers and a softer cushion top.
Apple Watch Series 3 GPS 38mm for $199 ($80 off): The Series 3 is not the latest and greatest Apple Watch (there’s a deal on Series 4 in the Best Buy section), but it’s still a fantastic wearable that will last years. This is as cheap as we’ve ever seen it. The larger
42mm size is also $199 – $229, depending on how much you like the color white.Xbox One S + 1 Game + Extra Controller + Headset for $300 ($150+ off): Three hundred bucks is a normal price for the Xbox One S, but you don’t usually get a second controller or a very nice HyperX headset.
Nintendo Switch + 1 Game + Bag or Stand for $329 ($30 off): The Switch is a couple years old, and a Switch Lite is on the horizon (we don’t know how to feel about it). Still, it’s rare to see the system on sale due to its popularity. This is not a massive deal, but you get a discounted game and a carrying bag or battery stand. GameStop (below) has a Switch bundle deal, as well.
Instant Pot Duo60 6Qt 7-in-1 Multicooker for $50 ($50 off): Walmart has matched Amazon’s price on the coveted sale item, the Instant Pot. I like my Instant Pot, but I’m glad I didn’t pay more than $60 for it. If you want one, now is the time.
Apple iPad 32 GB for $249 ($80 off): The standard iPad is periodically discounted to $250 on Amazon, but it doesn’t happen as often elsewhere. This is as cheap as we see the latest iPad. Read our Best iPad guide to learn more.
Samsung 11-inch Chromebook 3 for $160 ($60 off): If you need a super cheap laptop for browsing the web and checking email on the go this Samsung fits the bill. It’s lightweight, has 4-gigbytes of RAM (plenty for Chrome OS), and a 16-gigabyte hard drive for storing your Google Docs offline.
Samsung 65-Inch 4K TV for $598 ($202 off): Samsung makes great TVs. Some of them are especially great. This UN65NU6900 model is mid-range, but still pretty good. It’s a TV you won’t regret buying for $600.
TCL 55-Inch 6-Series 4K TV (55R617) for $529 ($370 off): When it comes to value, the 6-Series punches well above its weight. This model comes with Roku built-in and picture quality is as good as you’d get in many TVs hundreds of dollars more expensive.
Roku Streaming Stick Plus for $49 ($10 off): Roku is our favorite platform for watching streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu on a television, and the Streaming Stick Plus is one of the best Roku devices.
Dyson V6 Handheld Vacuum for $120 ($80 off): We love a good Dyson vac. They’re expensive, but they know how to suck. This handheld model gets 15-20 minutes of suction on a charge and is made for cars, boats, and the far-flung corners of your home.
Ozark Trail 8-Person Instant Hexagon Tent for $99 ($80 off): We have not spent a night under the stars in this particular tent, but it has lots of standing-height space. It also has a gear loft, built-in side pockets, and plentiful ventilation. It’s one of those tents that pops up instantly when you unfurl it, so there’s “no assembly required.”
Google and Nest Deals
Google isn’t about to let Amazon’s big sale go unchallenged—not when smart speaker adoption is at stake. Google began discounting its best devices days before Prime Day began. The WIRED Gear team prefers Google Assistant to Alexa. Google answers common questions more capably, and its setup process is simpler and friendlier for any third-party devices you may want to add to your smart home. Be sure to see our full post on all our favorite Google devices on sale, but here are some of the highlights. These deals are at Walmart and Google.
Google Home Mini for $25 ($24 off): It’s small, but if you are just dipping your toe into smart speakers, or want a second one, the Mini is cheap and gets the job done.
Google Home Max Speaker for $249 ($50 off): We really like this Google speaker. It was great at $400, and for $250, it will fill any room with booming audio. If you buy two, you can sync them up for stereo sound.
Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant for $128 ($72 off): This is one of the best smart displays you can buy (8/10, WIRED Recommends). It’s not technically made by Google, but the company collaborated with Lenovo, which may be why this gives the Echo Show a run for its money.
Lenovo Smart Clock with Google Assistant for $60 ($20 off): Lenovo made it, but the Smart Clock is also Google’s competitor to Amazon’s Echo Show 5 ($50, $40 off during Prime Day). It brings the Google Assistant to your bedside and doesn’t have a camera staring at you while you sleep, which is a nice bonus. Read WIRED’s review.
Google Nest Hub for $79 ($70 off): This used to be called the Google Home Hub. It’s basically like a Google Assistant speaker with a display—a small display. At its regular price, we didn’t think it was the best deal around, but we like that it has no camera, and its 7-inch screen makes it small enough to put at your bedside.
Nest Hello Smart Doorbell for $189 ($40 off): Amazon’s Ring doorbells grab more headlines, but the Nest doorbell has some neat face-tagging features that let it recognize your loved ones and issue alerts when they arrive, among other features. Read more about it.
