The Washington Redskins are placing tight end Jordan Reed on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.
Reed, 29, has not played in the regular season after suffering a concussion during Washington’s third preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 22.
League sources told Schefter last month that there is concern that Reed’s career is over due to his history of concussions.
Reed, a Pro Bowl selection in 2017, has suffered six documented concussions since entering college, including four since joining the NFL in 2013. Prior to this season, he hadn’t reported any concussions since the 2016 season.
His history in the NFL has been marked by injuries, and he has never played in all 16 regular-season games. Over the past two years, Reed has dealt with various problems, from two sprained toes to hip issues. He needed surgery on both toes after the 2017 season, and they still bothered him early last season.
Reed has played more than 13 games once: In 2015, he played 14 games and caught 87 passes for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns. Since that season, his highest catch total is 66, and he has scored a combined 10 touchdowns.
