Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley was fined $30,000 by the NBA for inappropriate statements after Tuesday’s play-in victory, including the “egregious use of profanity,” it was announced Thursday.
Beverley made his comments to the media during a postgame news conference and on a social media post following the Timberwolves’ come-from-behind 109-104 play-in victory over the LA Clippers on Tuesday to clinch the seventh spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
“I told you we were going to the playoffs,” Beverley told reporters after Tuesday’s game. “Most of you all, y’all looked at me like I was crazy when I first said that. I f—ing told y’all.”
Beverley played the past four seasons for the Clippers and confidently predicted upon arrival in Minnesota that the Timberwolves would make the playoffs.
When later asked what he told his old Clippers teammates after the victory, Beverley said, “Take they ass home.”
He also posted a since-deleted video to Instagram after the win that included profane language.
Beverley was just fined $25,000 by the NBA on Tuesday for improper conduct toward a game official. He was ejected from Minnesota’s final regular-season game on Sunday for receiving two technical fouls, which were levied against him for complaining about calls and non-calls.
The Timberwolves earned the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference and play at Memphis on Saturday in Game 1 of their first-round series.
