The Papers: ‘Life-saving statin handout’ and ‘Grenfell agony’
Friday’s papers cover calls for more people to be put on statins and Grenfell firefighters with cancer. …
The Times reports that statins – medication to lower cholesterol – will be offered to anyone who wants them under new NHS guidelines, rather than just those with a 10% or more chance of a heart attack or stroke. It says the treatment watchdog, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, now suggests that statins could be considered for a further 15 million people if there is ‘patient preference’ for them. The paper points out that the new guidance is still out for consultation.
