The New York Yankees designated Aaron Hicks for assignment on Saturday and signed fellow outfielder Greg Allen to a major league contract and added him to the roster.

Hicks has more than two years left on a seven-year, $70 million contract signed in 2019. He is batting .188 with one homer and five RBIs in 28 games this season but had his best performance of the year on Thursday against the Blue Jays when he tallied three hits.

Hicks, 33, is a career .230 hitter with 101 homers and 356 RBIs in 898 career games with the Minnesota Twins and Yankees.

“It is what it is,” Hicks said, per the New York Post. “It’s part of the business side of it. Just got to move on to the next chapter. … This is a very good baseball team. It kind of seemed like it wasn’t working out for me.”

Allen, 30, was acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Boston Red Sox on Friday. He is a career .232 hitter with 10 homers and 67 RBIs in 282 games with Cleveland, the San Diego Padres, the Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
