‘Foundation’ dodges a Seldon Crisis with last-minute renewal

After leaving “Foundation” fans and cast in doubt over the future of the drama, Apple TV+ has now announced a fourth season.

While Apple TV+ typically announces series renewals early, as a way to advertise its confidence in a show, “Foundation” has again only been officially picked up at the last minute. It’s not clear when the company made the decision, but even a day before the announcement, the cast were claiming not to know.

“It’s been fantastic to watch ‘Foundation’ become such a global phenomenon, with fans tuning in from every corner of the world,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV+, said in a statement. “With each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artistry of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team.”
